Embracing the Honor: My Induction into the Hall of Fame

As I sit down to reflect on my induction into the Hall of Fame this past week at my alma mater, I can’t help but feel a wave of emotions. This honor means everything to me. It’s not just a recognition of my achievements; it’s a validation of all the hard work, discipline, and perseverance I’ve poured into my journey. It highlights the countless hours spent training, the sacrifices made, and the unwavering commitment to becoming my best self.

Celebrating the Journey

Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is also a moment of gratitude. I think of my teammates who pushed me to strive for greatness, my coaches who believed in me, and my family who supported me unconditionally. This achievement reinforces the idea that success is rarely a solo endeavor; it’s a collective journey, built on a foundation of teamwork and support!

I started to reflect on this as a mother, this honor resonates deeply with my role in raising my children, who are also athletes. My kids have always known that their father played professional football, and they cheered him on throughout his career. However, they haven’t seen my accomplishments firsthand, until now. As they navigate their own paths in college, I hope they recognize the dedication it takes to excel, from earning scholarships to competing for championships. Understanding what it means to be a champion is a lesson I’m proud to share with them.

Empowering Others

This induction is not just a personal milestone; it’s also a chance to uplift other women. Throughout my life, I’ve always been driven to compete, not just in sports, but in academics and my professional life as well. Surrounding myself with strong, supportive women has been a vital part of my journey. Together, we elevate each other, pushing one another to achieve greatness.

Empowerment comes from connection. When women come together to support and uplift one another, incredible things happen. My induction into the Hall of Fame symbolizes that communal spirit. It’s a reminder that by sharing our experiences and wisdom, we can help each other reach new heights.

I was asked to speak to Nevada’s 2024-25 Girls  Track Team and I was honored. Just walking in and seeing their faces reminded me of the special bond of communal spirit. Community, empowerment, connection and support all work hand in hand. When we work on ourselves individually, but come together as one to champion one another, the power is boundless! I saw myself in these young ladies and I hope that a few of my words resonated with them and they felt encouraged to be their best selves while pulling others up along the way.

Believing in Yourself

I was asked if my younger self would believe that I would one day be inducted into the Hall of Fame. My answer, absolutely! My younger self didn’t doubt that I could achieve great things. I’ve always been fiercely competitive, striving to be the best in everything I do.

However, I realize now that my journey has never been solely about personal glory. It’s been about setting an example for my family and showing them what it means to work hard and persevere.

The lessons learned on the track, discipline, positivity, and encouragement are just as important in life. If more athletes recognized that the skills that they cultivate in sports can translate to their everyday lives, they would surpass their goals time and time again.

From Athlete to Advocate

As I think back on my journey, from my time as a child until now, I am filled with an enormous amount of gratitude. My father encouraged me to pursue track, my mother made the most delicious and healthy foods and showed me the importance of taking care of my body, and my Godmother Norine, who played a pivotal role in shaping me as an athlete as well as leading by example on the importance of character. I will never forget being recruited by Coach Serrano and Coach Kraft at the  University of Nevada who saw my potential and believed in me, and continuously inspired me to reach my greatness.

What I’ve achieved on the track is just the beginning. I strive to continuously carry that spirit into my family life and my business ventures, where I aim to empower those around me to be their best selves. We all need champions in our corners, people who believe in us and are willing to share their wisdom.

Ultimately, it takes a village to succeed, and I am thankful for the incredible men and women around me that have supported me along the way, but also those who are currently creating their villages.  As I celebrate this occasion, I am excited not only for myself but for all the others I hope to inspire along the way.

Cheers to hard work and determination, you never know where you will end up! God has shown me this time and time again  and I am forever grateful!

With Love,

AB
